Better Places is now officially a community interest company
When we first imagined Better Places, we built it around one idea: that communities should be at the heart of the solutions to the challenges they face. Our mission is to help people and organisations work together to reduce inequality, widen access to opportunity, and shape more inclusive, connected communities.
We’ve always seen ourselves as a social enterprise, so it was a natural step to officially register as a Community Interest Company (CIC).
So, what’s a CIC?
A CIC is a special type of limited company set up to benefit the community it serves, not private shareholders It’s a model that puts people first – and it gives us a structure that matches our values.
By registering as a CIC, we’re doubling down on our commitment to support and bring together communities, civil society, public services, academia and businesses to co-create practical responses to the issues that matter most.
How will our work benefit communities?
Through our work, we’ll help share knowledge and build the kind of long-term relationships that strengthen local networks. We’ll work with people to design community-led solutions to the challenges they know best. We’ll ensure that national and regional policies can work for the people they're meant to serve. We’ll open up pathways for innovation that are inclusive and grounded in lived experience. And we’ll help unlock skills and resources from across sectors, so communities can grow their own capacity and lead on what matters to them.
There’s no doubt that our communities are facing big challenges – the kind many of us haven’t seen in our lifetimes. But we also see so much drive, care and commitment from people who want to make a positive change on their doorstep.
We’re here to support that, and we can’t wait to get started.
